Run of 1898

A Piece of Oklahoma Musical History

In the early 1970s, Harold Fletcher, professor emeritus of music at Oklahoma Christian University, was asked by a colleague to write a song for a documentary on Oklahoma's famed "Pioneer Woman" statue. The resulting composition was the first of what is now The Oklahoma Set. The Set's keynote song, "The Oklahoma Run," won a competition by The Oklahoma Heritage Society and the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association for a song about Oklahoma
