SEQUEL TO AWARD WINNING NOVEL RELEASED

The Feester Filibuster, sequel to award-winning Oklahoma children’s writer Molly Levite Griffis’s young adult novel, The Rachel Resistance,  was released last year at the National Booksellers Association convention.  In 2002, The Rachel Resistance won the prestigious Oklahoma Book Award presented by the Oklahoma Center for the Book in the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. This book was also chosen for the Master List for the Volunteer Award in Tennessee to be presented next year.

A story of life in Oklahoma during the first year of World War II, The Feester Filibuster, like Ms. Griffis’ other books, is set in 1942 in the small Caddo County town of Apache. Rationing, war bonds, scrap drives, gasoline-saving speed limits, blue star flags in the windows…all the elements that marked the lives of those who were growing up during the war years are portrayed in this remarkably detailed portrait of small town life.  The American Legion Hut, hub of all the town’s activities, is the place to be for everything from Girl Scout meetings to bandage rolling for the American Red Cross.

The book is available from bookstores or directly from the publisher, Eakin Press of Austin, Texas, at 1-800-880-8642. Autographed copies may be ordered from the author by calling Levite of Apache, 405-366-6442.

Reviews for

The Tribune in Oklahoma City:

“Children will love it.  Adults will cherish it.”

The Daily Oklahoman:

“Molly Levite Griffis moved herself back to the 1940s and to the pre-teen years with such ease that she is able to carry us all along. There’s much to learn in this book about America and the patriotic spirit that is resurfacing today, but it’s so much fun we don’t realize this is educational.”  --Ann DeFrange,

And also from The Daily Oklahoman:

“There’s fun here, but also thoughtful explanations of standards and events in 1941. Grown-ups will fondly latch onto the cultural references.”

The Norman Transcript

“…older readers will be interested in Griffis’ unique ability to capture the reaction of a typical small town’s population when the Second World War came to the United States.”

The Tulsa World

“…heartwarming young adult book…from a student of Foster Harris, University of Oklahoma professional writing professor.”

The National News of the American Legion Auxiliary

“In her imaginative, humor-filled adventure, Ms.Griffis not only entertains, but also educates…the American Legion ‘hut’ is used as a central meeting place…the patriotism comes through.”
