Dear Readers One and All,

I’m excited about Oklahoma’s upcoming birthday! November 16, 2007--our centennial year. Oklahoma’s Heaven in 2007!

In honor of our collective birthday, I’m putting together a list of 100 books that should be available to every school child in Oklahoma and encouraging teachers, librarians and parents to motivate youngsters to read them. I’ve added a new section to my website, Centennial Book Club. Click on the link to see the beginning of my list. Over time it will grow.

I'm starting with the books of my Oklahoma writer friends and will add other books as they are pointed out to me. If the book is about Oklahoma or written by somebody who lived here long enough to still call themself an Oklahoman, then it's an Oklahoma book!  I hope to list only books that are still in print, or if they are OOP (out of print) that will be indicated, but I can't guarantee it! Get your PTAs and Friends groups involved!

Hey, kids,
     Wanted to share with you what I thought was one of the funniest things that happened to me last year when I was doing school visits. The librarian at North Park Elementary School in Guymon, Oklahoma, surprised me by filling the halls of the school with the most wonderful full-sized soft sculptures of the characters in my books as well as one of me! I have told those of you I visited that the girl on the cover of THE RACHEL RESISTANCE is my real life daughter, Ginger, who is a red head.  Well, when Ginger went shopping for my Mother's Day card, what did she find but the card you see here which had the very same girl on it as the one done of Rachel, even down to the dress with the stripe on the sleeves!
   Every time I look at them, I laugh, and I thought you would, too!
